Episcopal Ordination of Rt. Rev. Mgr. Peter Kochupurackal on 18 June 2020

The Episcopal Ordination of Rt. Rev. Mgr. Peter Kochupurackal will be held on 18th June 2020 at St. Raphael’s Cathedral, Palakkad, Kerala. He will be ordained by His Excellency, Most Rev. Mar Jacob Manathodath, Bishop of Palakkad. The solemn ceremony is scheduled to begin at 10.30. a.m. Owing to the current scenario, the number of participants to the event has been restricted. However, the event will be broadcast live through the Palakkad diocese website www.palghatdiocese.org.

Rev. Fr. Peter Kochupurackal was born on 29 May 1964 at Marangoly in the Eparchy of Pala. He joined St. Mary’s Minor Seminary, Kallepully, Palakkad in 1981 and completed his studies of Philosophy and Theology at St. Joseph’s Pontifical Seminary, Aluva. He was ordained priest on 19 December 1990. He did his Masters in Canon Law at St. Peter’s Pontifical Institute, Bangalore (1993-1995). Thereafter he completed his Licentiate and Doctoral studies in the Pontifical Oriental Institute in Rome (2000-2007).

Following his studies, he was appointed the Judicial Vicar of Eparchial Tribunal on 01 July 2007. On 01 October 2013, he was appointed the Chancellor of the Eparchy of Palakkad and from 10 December 2016 he was appointed as the Syncellus for seminarians and consecrated persons. In the Holy Synod of the Syro Malabar Major Archiepiscopal Church that gathered at Mount St. Thomas, Kerala, he was canonically elected on 15 January 2020 to the Office of the Auxiliary Bishop of the Eparchy of Palakkad, Kerala.
